The indigenous population of Biafra IPOB in the DRC calls for the organization of a referendum for a sovereign state

The main independence groups such as the Movement for the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) are continuing their fight by demanding a self-determination referendum for a sovereign state of Biafra.

The indigenous population of the state of Biafra living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, called on Monday, May 31, 2021 in Kinshasa, the international and national community for the organization of the referendum that could settle the question of the separation of Nigeria.

Mazi Nelson Okechukwu, National Coordinator of this movement has suggested that the call for a referendum in Nigeria is not synonymous with war. For the coordinator of this movement in the DRC, which paid tribute to the indigenous population who died for this noble cause, the IOPN movement only claims the independence of the state of Biafra.

« We want the freedom of Biafra and live in peace like all the states of the world, » he added.

According to Mr. Mazi Nelson, the news of the secession of Biafra, a region located in the south-eastern part of Nigeria, is at the origin of a civil war. This conflict, which will last nearly three years, will result in the death of more than a million men, women and children, victims of violence and hunger, he said.

In addition, this IOPN movement has declared the silence of the international community with regard to the cry of alarm raised by the indigenous population of Biafra inside or outside Nigeria.

“All the nations of the world have won their freedom, even the fish swimming in the rivers have lived their freedom, why not the people of Biafra. Can he not his freedom in God? Our prayer is to live free in peace, ”said Mr. Mazi Nelson.

The Biafran War is a fight usually fought by the Igbo people, who fight for secession every day. He expressed all the gratitude of the movement to the Congolese sister families for the moral and physical support without forgetting to thank in a special way the leader of the IOPN movement, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who allowed Biafres all over the world to come together and love each other.
